We Believe…

CARE (Christian Action Research and Education) in Northern Ireland believes that human life begins at conception and therefore the human embryo must be protected and cared for at all stages of its development.

We believe that both the mother and the unborn baby have inherent value and dignity, and we advocate for the health and well-being of both persons.

Who We Are

CARE is a Christian charity seeking to uphold human dignity and to support the most vulnerable people in society. CARE stands for biblical truth on matters relating to the intrinsic value of human life, protection of families and freedom to live out our faith. We work in all UK Parliaments and Assemblies and throughout the UK with Churches and individuals to promote Christian community-based initiatives.

Our Vision is to see a society that has a greater regard for human dignity and increasingly reflects God’s grace and truth through public policy, media and local practical involvement with vulnerable people.

Our Recent Work

From its beginnings, CARE has advocated for the right to life for the unborn. We are delighted to have been a founding partner of the Both Lives Matter campaign together with Evangelical Alliance and Life NI. It launched in early 2017 with a report and billboard campaign, highlighting the fact that by not introducing the 1967 Abortion Act in Northern Ireland, 100,000 people are alive today who would not have been born had the 1967 Act been applied to the Province. We believe law and policy on abortion in Northern Ireland should uphold the value and worth of both mothers and unborn children.

This claim was vigorously investigated by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), following a complaint. The ASA consulted evidence from a health economist and other experts and concluded that the 100,000 figure was a reasonable estimate of the impact of Northern Ireland’s abortion policy. The campaign then won a prestigious Public Affairs Award for Northern Ireland Campaign of the Year in late 2017.

CARE Northern Ireland has been active in recent years with parliamentarians at Westminster, the Northern Ireland Assembly and local councils, in seeking to promote life affirming law and policy in this area. We had the privilege of running the All Party Group on Human Life at the Assembly, before it collapsed, which provided MLA’s with a forum to consider and evaluate ethical issues around the beginning and end of life. We are regularly consulted by Politicians and Church Leaders from right across Northern Ireland and beyond due to our expertise in this area.

What Can I Do?

SPEAK UP - speak to your family and friends about the value of life. If you use social media, become an advocate for life.

WRITE - to your MLAs and MPs in defence of life. At the current time we are facing real challenges - make your voice heard.

GIVE - If you are able, support charities financially who affirm life.

PRAY - pray for the unborn, that their lives will be protected. Pray for those in authority to uphold our laws that protect life. For courage, boldness for CARE and other organisations who endeavour to defend the most vulnerable in society.

There is no foot too small that it cannot leave an imprint on this world.

Our Practical Support

We appreciate that abortion is a deeply personal and sensitive subject. There are many charities that seek to help and support women who have had abortions or who are facing an unplanned pregnancy.

Open is CARE's new initiative that seeks to create an environment within churches where unintended pregnancy and post abortion concerns can be shared with grace and compassionate understanding

Ask God to provide for the emotional and practical needs of vulnerable women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy with no real support. Give thanks for Christian individuals, groups and centres offering a listening ear, information and help to consider alternatives to abortion and to counsel those with post-abortion concerns.
